We know some of the folks that collect our pottery like to look back at
things that we have sold. So here you go:
Having grown up on a farm in North Dakota, I have many tree memories. One is of an old Cottonwood tree near a wetland. There was a hollow at the base that tended to always be home to someone. It seemed natural to add a little fox to this one. It also was hollow in the center, and many a bird called it home. This piece took the most time of all my pieces. I had to gradually dry this one out, and am amazed it made it through two firings. We spent a bit more to have this one double framed. I am not sure who is going to have a harder time letting this one go, Ted or I? We will be asking $295 for this one. Ted may shoot me, as I know he thought it should be higher. MANY hours of time invested. I want it to find a loving home! This is a Sculpted tile. When I sculpted it I was thinking about a path through the woods I used to walk as a child. When Ted decorated it he added a pair of bunnies on the path. We have a pet bunny that runs our household, so I am sure the inspiration came from him. This will also be at the show. I spent a whole week working on this. Ted sweat a bit over it as well! This tile was professionally framed at a local business. The frame itself costs close to $150. We are asking $250 for this one. Six sculpted buffalo heads added to this large jardiniere. This is a large piece. Nedra did the sculpting, and Ted of course did the decorating. It will be at the 2007 North Dakota Pottery Collectors Convention in Fargo. Yes, it is for sale. We are asking $195 for this one. Nedra invested about three days on the sculpting and Ted spent another two days decorating it.

| Face Jug #9 Gonzo the Viking Whiskey Jug!
Size: 8-1/2"H x 6"W x 7-1/4"D
Clay: Stoneware |
Gonzo the Viking - one of my personal favorites. My husband says it is
a cross between the Muppet Gonzo, and my Scandinavian ancestors! I never know
what the clay will turn out when I begin one of these creations, I just let it
become what it wants to be. There is a history behind face jugs. In
the 1800s people were looking for ways to keep the kids out of the whiskey.
They thought that if the container was frightening it would keep the children
away. I guess times have changed, for I am afraid these might just attract
young folk. These are glazed inside and out, so liquids could be put
in them. There is no lead in these glazes either.
I am happy to
say he has a good home! |
